DECKED OUT
By E. C. Traganas
As a child, I dressed my cat in doll clothes, brushed her fluffy silken fur, polished her toes and secretly rouged her rosebud lips and cheek pads with mother’s favorite forbidden lipstick. One cold winter day, I gave her a haircut. When the scissors accidentally clipped her ear, she screamed and ran away. I cried and cried, hoping she would come back home. A week later, they found her frozen body curled up near the back door, toe beans pale and white, painted lips still smiling. footprints near the door a brass knocker cloaked in snow just a strolling cat
